This Saturday, before you head out for the Modern Home Tour of Portland, start your day at the Architectural Heritage Center where they will be hosting a talk titled Modern Masters – from International Style to Northwest Regional.
The featured speaker is Chrissy Curran who is the Associate Deputy of the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office.
Details from the Architectural Heritage Centers site:
“You may have all heard the names Louis Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Pietro Belluschi, but what about Gropius, Saarinen, or Bailey? All of these architects helped shape the world that we live in today.
Please join us as Chrissy Curran, Associate Deputy of the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office, explores the rise of modernism and its impact on the built environment. This introduction to the “masters of modern architecture”, both at home and abroad, will place into historic context the personalities associated with the development of modernism from the late 19th century through the 1960s and help us understand why a relatively small group of architects had such far-reaching influence.”
