Kenneth Birkemeier
I grew up in the heart of the Alameda neighborhood (just around the corner from Ramona Quimby) in the midst of the city’s largest concentration of Birkemeier homes. Kenneth Birkemeier designed and built many homes in the Alameda area between 1932 – 1954 (approx). His signature decorative brick facade and oculus windows make them easy to identify. Birkmeier interiors typically boasts rails of wrought iron beautifully curved waiting to help guide you between floors. His later built mid century homes boast open floor plans and large windows, a couple of his homes built on Fremont (one of which he lived in himself) have spectacular views of the city. I have been inside of a handful of these homes and you can see and feel the high level of craftsman quality that Birkemeier was known for giving to each of his projects. Birkemeier also built homes in SE Portland close to Reed College and handfuls of single and multi family homes in the West Hills.
